Ah, yes… The week between Christmas and New Years. A time warp like no other where the clock seems to never move, and yet somehow you’ve consumed more Christmas cookies than there are actual hours between these two days.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting for the holidays, if and when you feel the need to shake off the post-Christmas coma, we’ve compiled a list of things to do during this weird in-between week. If you need even more suggestions specifically for the kids, check out our “Your Rain and Snow Playbook: Best Indoor Kids’ Activities” blog from a couple weeks ago.

*Double check before you go: Since this is the week between holidays, be sure to check these locations' hours or socials to make 100% sure they're open.

Get Moving: Parks and Trails

Back to Top of List

I know it’s cold, but I personally need a walk after an entire 10 or so days of eating nothing but sugar, butter and carbs.

- Mingo Creek County Park, Finleyville: Get your exercise in at this 2,600 acre park with 2 scenic covered bridges, playgrounds and a paved, 3 mile trail for biking or walking.

The Montour Trail: This 47-mile-long former railroad line is perfectly serene during the winter months, which makes it great for that post-Christmas dinner walk or bike.

The Panhandle Trail: Also a converted railroad line, the Panhandle Trail is a 29-mile journey through the more rural areas of Northwestern Washington County. It also connects to the Montour Trail.

Post-Holiday Deals: Shopping

Back to Top of List

If you didn’t get enough of shopping during the pre-holiday rush, now is your chance to grab up some clearance or remaining holiday deals.

Tanger Outlets, Meadowlands: With more than 80 stores like H&M, Old Navy, Coach, Nike, Adidas, Columbia and more to choose from, searching for post-holiday deals at Tanger Outlets is enough to fill a whole day.

- Shopping in Downtown Washington, PA: There are so many awesome locally owned stores in Washington that I’m struggling to find a format to list them all in. Consider checking out Thistledown Boutique and Art by April Ryan, Heart’s in the Attic, Iddy Biddy Fashions, Popcorn Willy, Joe’s Bakery and so many more.

Go Antiquing: If there's one thing we have here in Washington County, it's unique antique stores. Check out the Antique Center of Strabane, the Antique Loft at Trax Farms (and walk around the rest of the farm store and bakery while you're at it, too), Main Street Antiques, Route 19 Antique Mall, Poor Johnny's, Pepper Mill Antiques and Red Boot Antiques, just to name a few.

Get Some Peace and Quiet: Spas and Other Quiet Places

Back to Top of List

Look, it's okay to admit it: We all LOVE our families, but sometimes they can be too much, especially if there's a multi-day stay somewhere in the holiday mix. If you need an escape, these spas and other quiet places offer a refuge to sit back and take a deep breath.

- Salon and Spa at Chaney's Natural, Monongahela: This locally-owned spa offers a variety of services like Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage and other holistic therapies to help you de-stress from the holidays.

- Salt of the Earth, McMurray: Release any negative energy, frustration and stress in a Himalayan salt cave at Salt of the Earth, a wellness center, energy healing center and crystal boutique that also offers massage, sound healing and Reiki services.

Little City Coffee, Monongahela: This quiet little coffee shop in Monongahela is both a coffee roastery and bookstore that enticingly offers several hours of peace to sit back with your favorite drink and a book to get lost in.

- Fired Up, McMurray: Pick out a ceramic figure, piece of glass art or mosaic pattern to sit down and work on (in blissful silence or with a friend, your choice) for a couple of hours.

Fun With Kids: Energy-Burning Activities

Back to Top of List

Your kids may be itching to get out of the house by the time all the festivities are over, so we pulled some of the best energy-consuming activities to get all the excitement (and the sugar) out of their systems.

Planet Bounce, Tanger Outlets, Meadowlands: Whether you call them moon bounces, bouncy houses, bounce houses, inflatables, bouncy castles or moonwalks, Planet Bounce is a whole world of fun. With several different kinds of bounce houses that promise fun for adults and kids of all ages, Planet Bounce is a great way to shake excess energy off.

Sky Zone Trampoline Park: With activities like dodgeball, rockwall climbing, a ninja warrior course, foam pits, basketball and more, there's plenty of fun to be had at Sky Zone.

- Ironblast's Game Zone, Washington: This unlimited game lounge with pinball, arcade, console games and more offers a whole afternoon of fun.

Free Skate at Printscape Arena Southpointe: Kids can free skate, learn to play hockey or learn to skate with lessons on the NHL-sized ice. If all that makes you and the kiddos hungry, Bubba's Gourmet Burghers and Beer sits directly over the ice for a great view and an even better burger.
