ABOUT WASHINGTON COUNTY
Washington County's history started 19,000 years ago in a rocky overhang in what is now Avella, a small town in the western-most corner of our county bordering West Virginia. What was once a shelter and temporary home for our ancient ancestors became the start of something bigger than we could have ever imagined.
Less than 30 minutes south from downtown Pittsburgh, Washington County is rich not only in history, but in real experiences. We're small town America, rolling country hills and city living wrapped up into one; and we've got the shops, restaurants, historical experiences, winding trails and wide open green spaces, nightlife and more to back it all up. We're home to things like the PONY League World Series, the Whiskey Rebellion, 23 historic covered bridges and so much more to discover, explore and share with your loved ones.
So no matter if you're here for a day, a weekend or even a month; whether you're visiting family, friends, here for business, or just want to know more about the place we call home, we've got you. Explore our website to learn more about Washington County, events happening here, things to do and more.
