Adventurers and athletes alike are encouraged to participate in the second annual WPT Farm Games! This local endurance challenge combines the thrill of a Spartan Race with the rugged appeal of a Tough Mudder, all set against the backdrop of the Wonsettler Farm located in Scenery Hill, Pa.
Participants will test their grit and strength as they walk, run and hike their way through unique farm obstacles like cow pastures and the property’s creek at the WPT Farm Games, Saturday, August 3 at 2 p.m.
Cliff Wonsettler, owner and physical therapist at Wonsettler Physical Therapy, located on the same property, created the race to get people outside and active.
“We wanted to create something where people could challenge themselves physically on the farm, but we also wanted to create an opportunity for people to get together and get outside,” Wonsettler said. “This year we have 3 courses to choose from so the whole family can come out and participate.”
All skill levels are welcomed to participate and can choose from three different courses: a beginner’s course, an advanced course, and a course for participants aged 16 and under. Participants must be 16 and older to compete in the beginner and advanced courses. Each course has different challenges and activities along it.
“We wanted to create something that was inclusive of different abilities. We don’t want this to be intimidating. If you’ve never done a Spartan Race or a Tough Mudder, this is a great place to start,” Wonsettler said. “It’s a fun environment where everyone is going to be supportive.”
Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Everyone is invited to participate in the post-race celebration at the Wonsettler Physical Therapy Clinic directly following the race. The celebration is free and will include music, food and drinks.
“It turned into a big community party last year,” Wonsettler said. “We roasted a lamb, had a keg of beer and brought in pizza and other food, and people just showed up. It was a great day! And that’s what we set out to do. We wanted to create something that people would come to even if they’re not racing.”
Registration is open to all participants. All proceeds from the WPT Farm Games will benefit the From Alex with Love Foundation, a scholarship and philanthropic fund dedicated to honoring the memory of Alexzandra Loos, a Bentworth High School student and athlete who was tragically killed in 2004.
The entry fee for the beginner and advanced courses is $50. The fee for participants 16 and under is $15. To learn more about the WPT Farm Games or to register for the event, visit the event website.
