We're willing to bet you didn't know we had a polo club right here in Washington County. Read on to learn everything you need to know about the Pittsburgh Polo Club and plan your trip to this hidden gem.

Nestled on a sprawling 324-acre property in the hills of Burgettstown, the Pittsburgh Polo Club offers world-class polo just 35 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. What began as a beloved family property is now an operation that includes polo horse training, polo matches and polo lessons on a state-of-the-art arena perfect for leveling up your game, all taught by world-class polo champion Felipe Villamil.

Polo a team sport played entirely on horseback that originated in Central Asia over 2,000 years ago. Two to four players compete to score by hitting a small ball through the opposing team's goal using long handled mallets similar to croquet mallets. The game is divided into periods of 7.5 minutes called chukkers, and while that doesn't seem like a long time, the game is extremely fast-paced, which makes for an exciting watch. Players must concentrate to control their horse at lightning-quick speeds, work with their team and execute strategy all simultaneously.

Even if polo lessons aren't for you, you should definitely keep an eye on the club's schedule for upcoming matches. July 19's match is going to be especially exciting, as it's USA vs. Argentina, with world-class professional polo players coming all the way from Argentina to face off against some of the best players from across the US. July 19th's match begins at 12:00 p.m., and spectators are always welcome to tailgate as soon as the gates open, usually two hours before the match. Guests can bring their own tables, tents, umbrellas, chairs, and all food and drinks are BYOB, so we suggest making a day out of it! While there's no dress code or fancy dress required, it may be fun to put on your very best to add to the experience.
In addition to the excitement on the polo field, the property also has a large pre-Civil War home on property available for rent via Airbnb. Guests can try out polo, ride ATVs on expansive trails, fish, dirt bike and more.

Future matches beyond July 19th are August 23 and September 27 - the matchups for those are still to be announced, so keep up-to-date on the schedule either on the club's website or by signing up for our newsletter!
